Graffiti at mookau

I must stop starting all the blog posts with “I love…” – but I do love these blackboard clocks. We only order stuff we love though, so perhaps I don’t need to keep saying it.

Anyway, or indeed ‘any road up’ – what I love more than the clock is that our lovely cutomers have started to add their own notes to it, so it now looks like this….

Blackboard Clock

The display alternates between the time and the date every 30 seconds, and cleverly it works out what day it is for you. One day all clocks will be like this.

Bobby Pin Satchel

I love these bags because they are just the right size for an A4 file and no bigger. Plus they have the usual Bobby Pin styling, complete with a quote (and I love a good quote)

The writing you can’t quite read in the picture says

O.K., so I’m perfect, thin and impossibly beautiful. I’m just a drawing, people. Lighten up! Just be glad I’m not a photograph. Then we’d all get depressed

There is probably a very clever term to describe the conceit of pretending to be real in order to claim not to be real as per the quote, but I have no idea what it is. Please comment if you know.

And for those of you interested in details, it has a mobile phone pocket and a little zip pocket inside.

Owl and Monkey Charms

Henry David Thoreau once said of owls

I rejoice that there are owls. Let them do the idiotic and maniacal hooting for men. It is a sound admirably suited to swamps and twilight woods which no day illustrates, suggesting a vast and underdeveloped nature which men have not recognized. They represent the stark twilight and unsatisfied thoughts which all [men] have

Of course I’d like to pretend I just know that quote (and who Henry David Thoreau is for that matter, I hope he isn’t objectionable) but I just looked up ‘owl’ in Wikipedia to see what interesting facts there were as a way of introducing our cute keyring / bag charm owls.

We have a monkey design too, the monkey of course being described by Johnny Morris as ‘a cheeky chappie’

Why be pretty when you can be gorgeous?

It’s a fair question, and one which reputedly occupied Aristotle for most of his latter years.

It is also the question on the back of our lovely new hand mirrors, which are fabric coated and have a cute little ribbon.

Whoa! That’s Ugly

Sorry about the formatting of the pictures on the last post. My task for today (when I’m not serving customers) is to get a proper gallery set up that lets me control how things are laid out.

The current system reminds me of my what brother used to call the ‘Texas Shuffle,’ which involved throwing a pack of cards on the floor and declaring ‘it takes us (Texas) a long time tp pick ‘em up.’

Apologies for the 1001 Jokes for Kids-style explanation of the gag too, I just can’t help myself today.

lovely new keyrings

These metal keyrings from Bombay Duck are new in this week – 16 designs in total. If, like me, you spend ages rooting round in your bag for your keys, the chunky design & fab colours of these stylish keyrings will be a godsend – pictures are below, but they don’t do full justice to their shiny loveliness – come and see them for yourself.

For those of you less inclined towards all things pink and fabulous, our range of Haynes keyrings is now also fully restocked – minis & vw camper vans are selling fast, so get ‘em while you can! Images after the jump…

Bank Holiday Opening

Just a quick note to say we will be open from 11am to 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

Hopefully we’ll see you then.

mookau Commercial

One of our customers was so impressed with mookau that he has made us our on youtube advert. Ok, so he is Kathy’s brother (cheers Ian) but that just meant we weren’t suspicious when he turned up with a video camera. Shame that all the funky new stock arrived a day later, but we love it anyway!

Hello Blog Readers

Hi – just a note to say hello and thank you to those of you who are reading our website. We haven’t officially owned up to having one yet, so you must be a determined, discerning bunch who know what you are looking for when it comes to gifts.

Haynes Manuals, but Useful

I had a Haynes manual that came with my Vauxhall Viva, but I only really used it to confirm that should anything go wrong with the car I wouldn’t have the first clue how to do anything about it beyond calling the AA out.

That was how it came to be towed from my house on Junction Road back to Manchester, from where it never moved again. It’s not worth spending much repairing a car that only cost £50 and is held together by mud, masking tape and good luck.
