We have spent the last few days slowly working our way around the hundreds of stands that make up the Home and Gift trade show in Harrogate. I always think the trade shows are a little like prospecting – you have to sift through a lot of sand and grit before you find gold.
This time, as well as seeing all the exciting new things our existing suppliers have, we picked up a couple of really exciting new suppliers, including Martine Wester jewellery. We should be getting our first delivery of Martine Wester in early September, and we can’t wait. Already this month Martine Wester has been mentioned in the style guides of New! and Grazia magazines, and has been worn by such disparate musical talents as Sarah Harding and Florence Welch.

We love Disaster Designs here at mookau, every season they bring out something amazing, and this season is no exception. We know you’re big fans of the Moomin bags and the Paper Plane travel theme bags from Disaster that we sell, and now we have their latest ‘Hello Sailor’ range in too. Bye Bye Green Paint

When we got the keys to what is now mookau nearly three years ago, the outside of the shop was a rather austere (and strangely shiny) black. We wanted something a bit fresher so we painted it it’s current light green. Or at least we painted 95% of it green. The observant amongst you will notice that we didn’t quite finish the corners and because we ran out of time before we opened, and because when we went back for more paint of the same colour it has been discontinued. Bah!
That’s all about to change, however, as we’re painting it tomorrow – if the weather holds! The paint has been bought (and we got a spare can, just in case this time) and the scaffolding has been booked. All that needs to happen now if for me to sand it down and paint it.
Rest assured that we’re still going to be open, but I’ll be up a ladder rather than in the shop. Do shout hello though.
Free strawberries and cream this weekend at mookau!

We love summer here at mookau. We especially love that good ol’ British tradition of scoffing strawberries and cream, so being the generous souls that we are, we’re giving them away free to all our lovely customers (that’s you!) this Saturday July 10th. And that’s not all – there’ll be a host of one-day-only special offers to take advantage of too, hurrah!
We’ve got lots of gorgeous new goodies due in this week too, so what better excuse to treat yourself to some retail therapy!
Goodbye and Good Luck to Old Friends

We always say that mookau is between Starbucks and Fat Face because people who don’t know Sheffield are, we reckon, fairly likely to recognise those two shops. In actual fact though our left-hand neighbour is Barney Goodman the Tailor – Starbucks is next door but one. Or at least it was until yesterday.
For those of you who don’t know, Barney Goodman was established in 1925, and is a very well know name amongst those who buy tailored suits in Sheffield. You don’t stay in business for 85 years without being good! They have been on Ecclesall Road for 25 years, but have now gone mobile – you can still get your Barney Goodman suit by contacting John via their new website www.barneygoodman.com Johh will then visit you to discuss your requirements and do all your fittings.
Anyway, here at mookau we’re going to miss having John and Tony next door – who am I going to have a chat with on my way to get a coffee now? Best of luck with the new venture guys, and if you want a suit, get in touch with them and say hello from mookau!

We get asked by magazines if we want to be featured in them all the time, and usually it’s a round a bout way of asking us to pay to advertise with them. In this case though Concept for Living didn’t ask us to advertise with them – they just asked us for a picture to use as they wanted to include us in their ‘best places to shop in Sheffield’ feature, which was lovely of them! Their write up reads:

End of Season Sale now on at mookau

Seriously, I’ve checked – summer starts on the 21st June on the summer solstice. If you want to be more accurate than that- and who wouldn’t? – then the solstice is at 11:28 on the 21st June, according to wikipedia, which as we know is always correct. That’s only 12 days away!
Armed with this knowledge, here at mookau we’ve started our end of season sale - you’ll find reductions throughout the shop, with savings of up to 50%. As ever with our sales though, once it’s gone it’s gone, so come and see us before you miss out!
